Einar Sandvold is a 26-year-old artist who lives and works in Oslo. Through his interest in architecture and design, new ideas, thoughts and feelings are created, which in turn give life and expression to his art. Urban landscapes have been and are what inspire him most to dream away from the real reality, and into other worlds. To places he can escape to, and seek refuge, tranquility, balance and control.
It is under such balanced, calm and controlled conditions that Einar initiates his projects, where it is primarily the sketch that sets the starting point for the composition. The painting is then built up of the shapes, surfaces and elements he visualizes in his own mind, before it is manifested in a holistic composition on canvas.
Perfectionism, both as an idea and an ideal, is something he seeks and which often characterizes his artistic process. This is especially evident in the end results of the projects, where immaculate surfaces, balanced colors, geometric shapes and varying dimensions are proportional to each other. In contrast to his perfectionist approach, he has periods where he breaks out of the controlled sphere, which gives his paintings a more expressive turn.
"My desire is to create a mirror that opens the viewer's vision, that makes one dream away to a world where one can lose control and move freely into the composition. By inviting the viewer into my artistic visions and perspectives, I give the viewer the opportunity to make their own interpretations and at the same time let them explore my worlds on their own terms.
